Participation Roles and Policies

Participant Roles at the WAAC

  • Presenter: A person who delivers a scholarly presentation. Co-authors may contribute, but only one person presents.
  • Panel Organizer: Initiates the panel idea and recruits other members (Presenters, Chair, Discussant).
  • Chair: Manages the panel by introducing speakers, keeping time, and ensuring smooth transitions.
  • Discussant: Offers expert commentary, critiques, and insights on presented papers during the session.

Participation Policy

  • Each participant can be a Presenter and hold only one additional role (Panel Organizer, Chair, or Discussant).
  • One cannot present both a single-authored and a co-authored work in the same year.
  • A Panel Organizer can also be a Chair or Presenter — but not both.
  • All co-authors must register for WAAC, even if they do not attend in person.
